Chin Szeto Obituary

Chin Szeto of Malden, Massachusetts passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at the age of 86. After recently being diagnosed with liver cancer, Chin died peacefully at home with his family by his side.

Chin was born in Canton, Hoi-Ping, China on April 2, 1935, to father Jia Szeto and mother Yu Jung-Ming. The oldest of three siblings, Chin excelled in his early education in China.  Later, he and his family moved to Taiwan during the revolution.  In Taiwan, he later enlisted in the Airforce and studied meteorology for over ten years and retired from the Airforce as a captain.

Later, he met a young registrar at the local hospital named Yu-Wen Ma.  They married in March of 1978 in Taipei.  They soon moved to Boston, Massachusetts to search for better opportunities and had two beautiful daughters.

Chin was very involved in the Chinatown community and was a long time member of the Szeto Association of New England.  In addition, he worked for many years as a line cook at several Chinese restaurants in the Boston area.  During his free time, Chin enjoyed watching Peking opera, playing Chinese Chess in Mary Soo Hoo Park, playing mah-jong with cousins and bringing home roast pork and egg tarts to spoil his grandchildren.  He got his greatest pleasures from spending quality time with his family.

One of Chin’s greatest accomplishments was being a father.  He always wanted children and considered himself lucky enough to be the “Baba” to two daughters and “Gung-Gung” to five grandchildren.  He knew that the biggest blessings in his life were family. Chin was a patient, kind, and loving husband and father.  You could easily bring a smile to his face by bringing him to lunch at the local dim sum restaurant.  Chin never needed much, just the company of his family.  He will be missed greatly.

Chin is survived by his wife Yu-Wen Szeto; daughters Karin Hsieh and Jessica Wehage; grandchildren Maxwell Hsieh, Samantha Hsieh, Penelope Hsieh, Cayden Wehage and Austin Wehage.
