Robert McCann Sr. Obituary

Robert Paul (Bob) McCann Sr, 83, of Malden, MA died Sunday January 2, 2022. Bob was born in Boston, MA to Rose B. (Nadeau) McCann and Francis X. McCann Sr on March 25, 1938. He graduated from South Boston High School in 1955 and had many wonderful memories to share about his “Southie teammates”. After high school he enlisted in the US Army Reserves on September 5, 1956. He proudly served his country earning the US Army Good Conduct Medal for serving honorably for 2 years of active duty in Paris, France and at the Pentagon as a computer specialist. He then served his remaining 4 years stateside in the Army Reserves.

He met his wife of 58 years Rose Alexandra (Cardello) McCann at his employer of 40 years, Commercial Union Insurance Company in Boston, MA. They married on November 10, 1963, and lovingly raised their family in Malden. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather his entire life.

Bob’s biggest passion in life was his family and they benefited greatly from his attentiveness, fun and unassuming personality. He was the best listener and would remember the smallest of details about all he met and truly cared about everyone. He was an avid Boston sports fan, who loved cheering on his favorite teams however his favorite people to cheer on were his children and grandchildren. Whatever their pursuit he was always supportive and ready to lend a hand and offer his famous advice “Practice makes perfect”. Bob wasn’t about what he owned or had but who he was with and how they were doing.

He was preceded in death by his beautiful daughter, Patricia, his parents, and his brother, Francis X. McCann Jr. He leaves behind by his loving wife Rose; His adored children, daughter Rose Ann Fitzpatrick wife of Paul E Fitzpatrick of Milford, MA, son Robert P. McCann Jr. husband of Patricia (Coppola) of Wilmington, MA, and his brother, John (Jack) McCann of Fredericksburg, MD. As well as his cherished grandchildren Dominic, Alyssa, Jenna, Sean, Kyle, Olivia, Taylor, Paige, Sophia, and Mark, and many dear cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his caring in-laws Millie and David Pretti and Roberta (Bobbi) Cardello.

A small, private family memorial service will be held at Rocco Funeral Home in Everett. A Celebration of Life for all will be scheduled at a later date when we can all gather safely.
