Salvatore Salamone Obituary

Salvatore John Salamone, (Malden, MA) a true and self made Renaissance man and cherished family patriarch, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2024, at the age of 82. Born in Everett, on November 7, 1941, to Rita Gannon and Salvatore Salamone Sr., Sal led a life enriched by his generous nature, striking intellect and profound love for his family. After graduating from Everett High School, Sal joined the United States Air Force and served for 8 years. In Japan, Italy and the Philippines while also serving during the Vietnam War.

Upon returning home, Sal’s deepening appreciation for knowledge and culture led him to pursue a degree in sociology at the University of Massachusetts, where he became a firm believer in the transformative power of education and the liberal arts.

In 1969, he married the love of his life and best friend from childhood, Marie Barbaro. Devoted to Marie for 54 years, their marriage was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, they created two homes (Malden and Hillsboro, NH) filled with love, laughter, and incredible meals. As a father, Sal was inspirational to his children, Sal and Nicole, instilling in them the values of curiosity, compassion and courage. His role as a brother and uncle was equally significant, offering wisdom, wit and encouragement to his extended family. Sal found his greatest joy in spending time with his grandchildren at the lake or taking extended vacations with all of them. Whether sharing stories from his remarkable life, teaching them about his favorite books and movies, or simply enjoying their company, Sal’s pride and love for his grandsons was deeply felt and apparent to all. An avid reader, he could often be found lost in the pages of a classic novel or exploring the depths of contemporary literature.

Sal was a Revenue Officer for the IRS for over 30 years and also a committed Track & Field official.   He was the commissioner of the Greater Boston League , the president of the Massachusetts Track and Field Officials Association and one of the head timers for the Boston Marathon for many years.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Marie Salamone; his loving children, Salvatore Salamone of Los Angeles and wife Elizabeth Oliver, Nicole  of York, Maine ; his cherished grandchildren, Wil, Theo, Laird and Torre; his dear sister, Rosemarie Munsey; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
