Stephen Pasquale Vuolo, known to many as “the Shoemaker on Norwood Street”, but more importantly as Stevie, Daddy, Papa, and Uncle. He was a life long resident of Malden. He passed away on December 21, 2020, at the age of 91. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 69 years, Giustina (JoJo) Vuolo, his sisters, Connie Dukeman and Dolores Conrad, as well as his six girls. He leaves behind a large family; Maria and Craig Maser of Mashpee, Lisa and Joseph LaMonica of Saugus, Stephanie Vuolo and Gerald Perna of Alton Bay, NH, Joseph Favreau husband of the late Lorene Favreau, Mary and John Felts, Annette and John Ruplis. He was the proud grandfather to Big Steve, Rainie, Baby Stephanie, Joseph “JoJo”, Little Stephen, Michael, Nikolas, Andrea, Jacqueline and John. He also leaves his great grandchildren Isabella, Sophia, Leah, Tessa, Matthew, Anastasia, Micheal, Leah and Anthony. He was dedicated to his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He considered them his greatest accomplishment and favorite pass time.
Steve was a cobbler his whole life until he retired at the age of 74. When he was still a child, he began working with his father in his shop so that he could help support the family. He went on to open his own shop which he closed when he joined the army to serve as part of the occupation forces in Germany. Upon returning home, he worked for others until in 1954 when he opened his 2nd shop in Everett on Norwood Street. This is where he worked for the next 40 years, sometimes 7 days a week to support his family.
After years of determination and hard work, he fulfilled his life-long dream when he purchased a lake house, “Steve’s Dream”. It was close enough to the city for his growing family to get together for Sunday barbecues and a fun day on the water. Until the ripe old age of 90, you could often find him buzzing around the lake on his Seadoo or loading his adored children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren onto his party boat for a ride around the lake. Family was everything to him and his greatest pleasure in life. He was in fact the heart and soul of this family.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 29th at 10:00 am in Sacred Heart Church (Malden). We ask that in lieu of flowers, everyone please make donations to St Jude’s Hospital. With his love for children, it will be the perfect way to commemorate his life.
