Yvonne H. Gates

Yvonne Hazel Gates (Marshall), age 87, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025, in Everett, Massachusetts. Born on June 25, 1938, in Boston, Massachusetts, Yvonne lived a life marked by dedication to her family, her faith, and her community.

A proud graduate of Girl's High School in Boston, Yvonne went on to build a long and steady career with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She served for nearly three decades—29 and a half years—as a Clerk III with the Department of Transitional Assistance. Her commitment to public service reflected her deep sense of responsibility and care for others.

Yvonne was a woman of enduring faith and a devoted member of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Malden. Her spiritual life was a cornerstone of her identity, and she found strength and purpose through her church community over many years.

She brought joy to those around her with her beautiful smile and lovely disposition. Whether she was enjoying traveling, participating in the book club with friends, dancing with style and grace, sewing intricate patterns, or crocheting thoughtful gifts, Yvonne embraced life’s simple pleasures with enthusiasm and warmth. 

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Yvette Gates; her grandson Jackson Innocent; her sister Marlene Marshall Gaines; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other beloved family members. Her memory is cherished by all who knew her.

Yvonne now joins in rest her parents Ralph and Hazel Marshall; her brother Richard Marshall; and her sisters Cynthia Beane and Joyce Johnson; former husband Frederick Gates
